Kris from Wandering Ink has wrote an interesting post about how our current school model will prevent another Leonardo da Vinci. This is a very interesting article that focuses on 10 skills which are being underdeveloped and discouraged in schools:
- Curiosita-Curiosity and a thirst for knowledge
- Dimostrazione-Demonstration and active understanding of knowledge
- Sensazione-Observation through all senses of everything around us
- Sfumato-Acceptance of the grey in life, the paradox, the ambiguity
- Arte/Scienza-Realization that the arts and sciences are not independent
- Corporalita-The importance of a healthy body for a healthy mind
- Connessione-The interconnectedness of everything in life
- Focus-Intense focus is not rewarded, and is often discouraged, in schools.
- Confidence-Students are taught that even the smallest of failures will have a domino effect stretching all the way into college and the work life.
- Independence-Schools create a paradox by forbidding social communication while condemning isolation and independence of society.
How can we ensure that schools develop, instead of kill, student’s creative potential?
