Today, we celebrate our fathers. I for one am thankful to my father because he always encourages me to do my best better than my best. Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about Father’s Day:
Father’s Day is a primarily secular holiday inaugurated in the early 20th century to complement Mother’s Day in celebrating fatherhood and parenting by males, and to honor and commemorate fathers and forefathers. Father’s Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide, and typically involves gift-giving to fathers and family-oriented activities.
If necessity is the mother of invention, I think knowledge is the father. Our education system is designed to bring us that knowledge, but it is failing. Be thankful to your father and give him a call (maybe even on your new mobile).
Today, in the US, we celebrate Mother’s Day. My mother does lots for me - listening to me talking about girls, reading my writing, cooking meals for me. I have lots to thank her for, the least of which being my life. Today, I went for a walk with her and will be seeing Judevine. What do others do to celebrate mothers today and every day?
Today, we honor the life of a man who fought for acceptance and freedom. Federal offices, post office and banks across America close so that we may enjoy a 3 day weekend and come back readier to accept others as they are help them to become who they want to be. Above all, we should remember that without difference in the world we would all have committed suicide a long time ago. We should carry on his legacy of fighting for freedom, dignity, and equality for everyone. In this digital age, differences of race, language, or culture are tiny barriers between peoples. It is time for us to tear down those barriers completely and create a common ground upon which all the people of this world can play, create, and learn. Remember the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. and make it more than a dream.
This is slightly hypocritical of me since I am not very accepting of other people - especially others of different intellectual abilities. However, I realize this and am working to accept people for who they are -with all their strengths and weaknesses.
