Rebranding America

Brand America Interview

Monocle has a very interesting interiew with Paula Scher about rebranding America. She has some very interesting ideas upon the problem with America’s current militaristic brand. I couldn’t agree more that we should change our brand from a military brand built for the Cold War into a brand advocating inclusiveness and democracy. Somehow, I think that if we actually took some of her advice then America would be far more supported internationally. (Of course, then I wouldn’t be talking about America’s brand instead of the United States brand) A very good watch if your interested in branding or politics.

On the topic, you may be interested in a project started by Andrew Ellington called Calling America, which is dedicated to this very topic (reintroducing people to America). In fact, I just wrote a story for them called A Land Not Soon Forgotten, which, coincidentally, talks about the city of Tampa. I say coincidentally because, according to your banner, today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and Tampa’s history is strewn with pirate lore.
