In the modern age of information streams bombarding you from all sides, we must ask if schools are properly preparing students to cope in the real world. For instance, in a technical job, you might be listening to the latest podcast from your industry, reading management blogs, and brainstorming a web application. All of this information flows by at lightning speed, even as numerous alert and notifications pop up all of the screen. Contrast this information overload with the learning environment. Regardless of the subject, classes usually consist of 90-minute blocks where a single, specific idea is investigated with like 2 other side topics explored. Schools need to understand the important of teaching students to think fast on numerous levels rather than critically thinking through one idea over an extended period of time. Students of the 21st century need to combine the speed of computers with the critical judgment of humans.
